REVIEW: Sonic The Hedgehog Breaks The Video Game Curse

Let’s backtrack a little, Bingers. Can you name a videogame turned movie that was a success, or at least fun to watch? Hardly, right? On top of my head was Detective Pikachu but it is debatable because it was inspired by a Pokemon game. The old Mortal Kombat and Mario movies were cringe-worthy that I just decided to throw them at the back of my mind. The recent Assassin’s Creed was so-so. It seems like there really is a curse to video games turned movies, that they are always bound to fail. To be honest, this is not surprising because of the difference in medium. Last weekend, however, I was greatly surprised with Sonic The Hedgehog! To me, it broke the video game curse. Wanna know why? Read our review, Bingers .

REVIEW: Little Women Resonates and Warms The Heart

This is the year of women. On the first quarter of 2020 alone, moviegoers are up for films starring powerful women. Starting with Birds of Prey, which was a great success for an all-female superhero group, and on March we’ll have the female-led Black Widow. But not every women have to wield a sword to show power. In Columbia Pictures’ Little Women, we’ll see that different types of women can make an impact as long as they put their heart and their soul into it. Bingers, here is our review of Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the beloved novel by LA Alcott, Little Women.

REVIEW: Birds of Prey - It's A Man's World No More

This is a man’s world no more. Warner Bros. Pictures and DC scream women power in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn! Last Saturday, February 1, Warner Bros. Pictures invited us to the special screening of Birds of Prey at the IMAX Theatre in SM Megamall! Before the usual screening, the studio surprised us with several treats such as the Pink Pudding from M Bakery. This new treat is a mix of their classic Banana Pudding and a Confetti Cake. The banana-dessert-lover in me approves. Now that we’re powered up with a dessert, the night was hyped even more with a dance number to the soundtrack of the movie from Warner Music Philippines. The most exciting surprise that night, however, was the 6-minute preview for the upcoming Christopher Nolan film, Tenet. I barely grasped what was happening but it was too intense, I just know I am in! And now on to the main show. Bingers, here is our review of Birds of Prey: The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

REVIEW: Cats Charms and Surprises

Many hated it but I love it! Bingers, people are divided about Tom Hooper’s adaptation of the hit Broadway musical by Andrew Lloyd Weber. Cats is the most recent film that polarized the audiences around the world. Among the initial criticisms are: they look terrifying, the movie is pointless, and it is downright absurd. Well, even I when I saw the trailer I thought the same. It is why I was pleasantly surprised with how much I enjoyed the movie during United International Pictures’ special screening of Cats.

REVIEW: Jumanji: The Next Level Ups The Game

Growing up, the first Jumanji movie was my go-to movie. There wasn’t a weekend that I did not watch it on our VHS. I mean, what is there not to love about it? We have Robin Williams, lions, and a whole new world to explore. There is that special sense of adventure that tickled my fancy. So, when the soft reboot of the movie came out about a decade later, I was a bit skeptical. Jumanji starring Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black? That’s something, right? But boy it did not disappoint and it left me in stitches. The good thing is a sequel to that comes out this year, continuing in on the premise of Jumanji being a broken video game. Was it funny? Bingers, you’d want to read til the end of our review because the movie surprised me with some of its elements!

REVIEW: Dead Kids - When The Games Get Serious

We all have our special high school memories. It is during this period when we try to make memories between our childhood and adulthood, given that it is the last stage before we head into college. This is the time when kings and queens of the batch reigned and the misfits were preyed upon. As Mean Girls once put it, it was a jungle. So, what is up with all these talks about high school? Well, it is the setting for the first Netflix-licensed Filipino film, Dead Kids. And it was one crazy, crazy film! Bingers, we were at the premier of Mikhail Red’s Dead Kids and I must say, it is something not to miss!

Netflix Films The Two Popes and Dead Kids Debut at Cinema One Originals

Bingers, we all have our favorite Netflix film. For me, it’s The King starring Timothy Chalamet. It’s so good it got me surprised that it didn’t get a wide release. As it turns out, it is becoming the trend for big movies to head straight to streaming sites such as Netflix! Now, at the 15th Cinema One Originals Film Festival, Netflix will be debuting two original films: The Two Popes and Dead Kids.

REVIEW: Doctor Sleep Will Leave You Sleepless

It has been 39 years since we last entered Overlook Hotel. It has been nearly 40 years since The Shining came out and the classic is still embedded in everybody’s head. Stanley Kubrick did a great job in adapting Stephen King’s novel, despite some controversy between the two creators. One’s taste did not match the other’s but as for us viewers, the film is such a classical masterpiece. So, this just raises the question: Should there really be a sequel? Honestly, if you ask me, I’d say yes. While the first movie was widely loved by many people, it was just a so-so for me. It was classified as a horror movie but I wasn’t scared, not even once! I saw it instead as a creative adaptation of family abuse. And at the core of the story, it truly is. The sequel to it, Doctor Sleep, changed my mind about the movie. It made me appreciate it even more as it dove deeper into its lore. So, Bingers, here is my review of Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep.

REVIEW: Zombieland 2: Double Tap - Blonde Saved The Day

When the first Zombieland movie came out in 2009, pop culture was crazy about zombies. I mean it was around that time we saw several zombie-centric titles and among of which is The Walking Dead! The world just can’t have enough of these brain-devouring monsters. And so, Zombieland became a cult favorite for mixing the genre with humor, a dark one. The premise was pretty straightforward- survive in a zombie-infested world. By introducing some crazy ideas and a wickedly hilarious mix of characters, the movie created a winning formula. Also, it has been a real mystery why Columbia Pictures took a decade to give the fans a much-awaited sequel! Bingers, if you are like me who has been waiting for the sequel for a decade, worry not because it was worth the wait! Before you head out to cinemas to scream in laughter, read first my quick movie review.

REVIEW: Joker Is In All of Us

We have failed as a society. That’s the hard truth that Joker is trying to tell us. As citizens of the society, we collectively failed to do our parts and in return, created monsters, the monster- Joker. I could go on and on and on with how much brilliance is in Warner Bros. Pictures and Village Roadshow’s unraveling of the iconic comic villain. Bingers, here is my review of Todd Phillips’ Joker.
