Lockdown Boredown? Try These Quaranthings-To-Do!

Lockdown Boredown? Try These Quaranthings-To-Do!

Hey there, Bingers! So two months in and we are still on lockdown because of COVID. Are you as bored as I am? Well, we got no other choice because it is not yet safe to go out there. Do you know the saying “so much to do, so little time”? It was once a cliché we could all relate to. But these days, such seems to be inapplicable, for most of us are at home due to the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ). With more time on our hands now, we ask, what more can we do to stay productive? If there’s anything we are learning from our current reality during this time, it is that we can now do what we’ve always wanted to accomplish in the comforts of our home—be it baking, cooking, gardening, and other hobbies we had no time to learn before. Interested? Here are some activities you may want to try to make the most out of the ECQ period.

5 Series on Netflix You Should Check Out During the Lockdown

How are you doing this EECQ, Bingers? Are you and your family staying healthy? Please say yes. We are all stuck at home during the enhanced lockdown to flatten the COVID-19 curve in the Philippines. Last announcement was it will be extended up to April 30th as opposed to the original plan of April 14. That means we still have a lot of time in our hands. Of course, we can do productive things like growing our mini garden, keeping our body in check with home workouts, or just by streaming movies and series on Netflix! About the last part, I am sure you too are overwhelmed with titles to choose from. So, let me help you with that. Here are my 5 top picks for series to catch on Netflix during the Extreme Enhanced Community Quarantine.

LOOK: Moira Dela Torre Is the New Voice of Mulan's 'Reflection'

Bingers, are you also looking forward to the 2020 live adaptation of Walt Disney’s Mulan? I do! In fact, Mulan is my most favorite Disney movie EVER! I watched it countless times and I know the songs by heart! So, when I learned that the live-adaptation will not include the songs that we loved, I was heartbroken. I changed my mind, however, when I saw the trailer because it made sense that they did not include the songs. That does not mean that we are not going to hear them. Disney Philippines collaborated with Moira Dela Torre, the most streamed Filipino artist, for a localized version of Reflection from Mulan. We were at the launch and heard it firsthand. Experience fear and paranoia in The Invisible Man starring Elizabeth Moss | The Little Binger | Credit: United International Pictures

REVIEW: Descend Into Madness in The Invisible Man

Bingers, answer this: would you rather fear what you can see or fear something that you can’t? Personally, I’d rather see something that I am going to be scared of. With that, at least I know how it looks like and I’ll know whether I still have my sanity in check. You might be wondering why I asked you that. Well, in United International Pictures and Blumhouse’ The Invisible Man, we will witness the descent of a victim into madness. Bingers, it is going to be a bold statement but The Invisible Man is easily one of my favorite among the recent horror movies. Wanna know why? Find out in our review!

REVIEW: Little Women Resonates and Warms The Heart

This is the year of women. On the first quarter of 2020 alone, moviegoers are up for films starring powerful women. Starting with Birds of Prey, which was a great success for an all-female superhero group, and on March we’ll have the female-led Black Widow. But not every women have to wield a sword to show power. In Columbia Pictures’ Little Women, we’ll see that different types of women can make an impact as long as they put their heart and their soul into it. Bingers, here is our review of Greta Gerwig’s adaptation of the beloved novel by LA Alcott, Little Women.

Fall head over heels for Harley Quinn in Birds of Prey. | The Little Binger | Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures

REVIEW: Birds of Prey - It's A Man's World No More

This is a man’s world no more. Warner Bros. Pictures and DC scream women power in Birds of Prey and the Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn! Last Saturday, February 1, Warner Bros. Pictures invited us to the special screening of Birds of Prey at the IMAX Theatre in SM Megamall! Before the usual screening, the studio surprised us with several treats such as the Pink Pudding from M Bakery. This new treat is a mix of their classic Banana Pudding and a Confetti Cake. The banana-dessert-lover in me approves. Now that we’re powered up with a dessert, the night was hyped even more with a dance number to the soundtrack of the movie from Warner Music Philippines. The most exciting surprise that night, however, was the 6-minute preview for the upcoming Christopher Nolan film, Tenet. I barely grasped what was happening but it was too intense, I just know I am in! And now on to the main show. Bingers, here is our review of Birds of Prey: The Fantabulous Emancipation of One Harley Quinn.

Experience ShopSM now! | The Little Binger

It's Now Easier to Bingeshop with ShopSM!

So, Bingers. I feel like this is the nth time I’m going to tell you how much I love shopping. But as we all know, this season is not the great time to hit the mall because of the crowd! Department stores are packed and the queues for the counter get really long! I simply don’t have the patience for that. This is why I got my holiday gifts for my friends and family from online shops. They are addicting, true, but they sometimes don’t have the things I need unlike in actual department stores. The good thing is our go-to department store, The SM Store is now online via ShopSM! I tried the newly-up online store and here is my experience.

Jack Black, Karen Gillan, Dwayne Johnson and Awkwafina star in Jumanji: The Next Level | The Little Binger | Credit: Columbia Pictures

REVIEW: Jumanji: The Next Level Ups The Game

Growing up, the first Jumanji movie was my go-to movie. There wasn’t a weekend that I did not watch it on our VHS. I mean, what is there not to love about it? We have Robin Williams, lions, and a whole new world to explore. There is that special sense of adventure that tickled my fancy. So, when the soft reboot of the movie came out about a decade later, I was a bit skeptical. Jumanji starring Dwayne Johnson and Jack Black? That’s something, right? But boy it did not disappoint and it left me in stitches. The good thing is a sequel to that comes out this year, continuing in on the premise of Jumanji being a broken video game. Was it funny? Bingers, you’d want to read til the end of our review because the movie surprised me with some of its elements!

REVIEW: Dead Kids - When The Games Get Serious

We all have our special high school memories. It is during this period when we try to make memories between our childhood and adulthood, given that it is the last stage before we head into college. This is the time when kings and queens of the batch reigned and the misfits were preyed upon. As Mean Girls once put it, it was a jungle. So, what is up with all these talks about high school? Well, it is the setting for the first Netflix-licensed Filipino film, Dead Kids. And it was one crazy, crazy film! Bingers, we were at the premier of Mikhail Red’s Dead Kids and I must say, it is something not to miss!

Doc shines in Doctor Sleep. | The Little Binger | Credit: Warner Bros. Pictures

REVIEW: Doctor Sleep Will Leave You Sleepless

It has been 39 years since we last entered Overlook Hotel. It has been nearly 40 years since The Shining came out and the classic is still embedded in everybody’s head. Stanley Kubrick did a great job in adapting Stephen King’s novel, despite some controversy between the two creators. One’s taste did not match the other’s but as for us viewers, the film is such a classical masterpiece. So, this just raises the question: Should there really be a sequel? Honestly, if you ask me, I’d say yes. While the first movie was widely loved by many people, it was just a so-so for me. It was classified as a horror movie but I wasn’t scared, not even once! I saw it instead as a creative adaptation of family abuse. And at the core of the story, it truly is. The sequel to it, Doctor Sleep, changed my mind about the movie. It made me appreciate it even more as it dove deeper into its lore. So, Bingers, here is my review of Mike Flanagan’s Doctor Sleep.
